Before Sleeping Beauty pricked her finger and fell into an eternal slumber, before a spinning wheel’s curse sealed her fate, there was a tale of ambition, betrayal, and forbidden magic in the Kingdom of Fairytales.
When Cara wakes up in the woods, tangled in brambles and with no memory of who she is or how she got there, she senses a strength within her that doesn’t match her disoriented state. Taken to the glittering Palace of Draconis, she learns she is betrothed to the beloved King. At first, she believes her strange circumstances have led her to an extraordinary stroke of fortune.
But the palace walls hold secrets as dark as the shadows in Cara’s mind. The fiery passion she feels for the enigmatic King soon twists into something far more sinister, and Cara discovers the life she’s inherited is built on lies, manipulation, and ancient, unbreakable bargains. As her memories return, so does a searing rage—and the truth about the curse that ties her fate to the Kingdom of Fairytales.
Every curse begins with a broken promise, and every villain has a story. A Splinter of Flax is a spellbinding origin tale that unveils the heartbreaking path of the evil fairy and the choices that led to her legendary wrath.
In the Kingdom of Fairytales, not every story ends with “happily ever after.”

This was one dark and twisted tale, obscure and evasive at times. Smoke and mirrors. Nothing seems real, only the dreams at times. Greed, betrayal, and false masks are tangled with love, hope, and genuine kindness. What is real? Or who is sincere? Follow the story of Cara, Rowan, Morpheus, and Derillen to find out the ugly truths and search for a way to a happy ending, however low the probability seems to be. There are many twists and secrets in the story, yet true love shines through the words, and I really enjoyed the emotional rollercoaster.
I’m more than halfway through this book currently and I can’t wait to see what happens next! There are lots of questions still, but it definitely got more interesting after she got caught doing something she wasn’t supposed to do. I look forward to reading the rest!
